How Does the Machine Work

Waterjet equipment works by taking water and compressing it to very high pressures, up to 100,000psi or more, by utilising an intensifier pump.

Since water is in fact non-compressible, it will be looking to escape somewhere. The highly pressurised water is then directed along high pressure piping through a tiny orifice or jewel. These jewels are typically sapphire and have opening of .0005 to .015 in diameter.

The water is forced through an opening by the pressure and will exit at very high velocities, up to twice the speed of sound.

What are the benefits of Waterjet cutting

• Machines a wide range of materials and thicknesses. Materials from 1mm to 130mm thick can be

profiled and cut into virtually any shape

• Quality cut and quality finish

• Rapid setup - making prototype parts and short runs cost effective

• Does not create heat-affected zones or mechanical stresses

• Elimination of heat distortion. With Water Jet, there is no heat to cause warpage or distortion

“Waterjet cutting will provide you with diversity with a clean, smooth, burr free finish”
